Court Directs police to probe Arya Samaj for allegations of unauthorized religious conversions: MADHYA PRADESH HIGH COURT

The Madya Pradesh High Court recently directed the Senior Superintendent of Police, Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh) to get an investigation done into the activities of an Arya Samaj Vivah Mandir Trust in Ghaziabad.

FACTS OF THE CASE-

A couple from Madhya Pradesh “eloped” to the Arya Samaj Vivah Mandir Trust in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, and were married in 2019.

As part of the wedding ceremony, the woman, a former Muslim who had converted to Hinduism, signed an affidavit affirming her faith in front of the temple president.

While back in their native state, the wife filed a plea for police protection at the MP High Court. The HC issued a summons to the local sub-district magistrate, who, upon seeing that the girl was only three months away from turning eighteen, decided that she should be placed in the care of a Nari Niketan in Gwalior.

The guy petitioned the HC in December 2021, arguing that his wife had turned 18 and was legally able to remain with him.

JUDGEMENT-

The Madhya Pradesh High Court recently ordered the police to investigate an Arya Samaj trust in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh for illegally converting a Muslim woman to Hinduism and then solemnising her marriage to a man without any legal sanction
